The need has been freauentlv felt
during recent years, of a device for. giv
ing sound signals that will bo heard
above disturbing noises in whoae pres
ence ordinary alarma are without effect
An electrlo siren, which appears to
satisfy this demand perfectly, has been
constructed by the Deutsche Telephon
werke at Berlin. In thia apparatus the
armature of an electromagnet exclte-i
by a variable current of determinate
frequency, acts on a metallic membrane
through a lever; the ratio of tha lengths
of tha lever arms is so ehoaen as to se
cure a strong and powerful eouna.
