" Of the 4,931 samples submitted to

to comply with the1 law and 1.218 to vio
late Its provisions. Of the 1.213 ship
ments found to be ln violation of the
law, 171 were required to be reshlpped
beyond the jurisdiction of tha United
States, or to be destroyed; 177 were ad
mitted after the labels were corrected
to meat the requirements of the act, and
86b were released on final hearing with
out prejudice to future decisions by
the department ln similar cases. Dur
ing the paat year just closed, tha work
has increased very much, and I am sorry
that I have not the data at hand so as
to give pou a summary of tha year's
work, closing June 30, 1903.
