were arrested yesteaday on the charge

lieved that the loss sustained by the
Van Xrsdale-Harrls Lumber company
and Edward F. Xlehause & Co., in a
disastrous lumber yard fire last night
will amount to 1260,000. Starting- from
eome unknown cause, the flames Ruined
sueh headway In the lumber yards at
Fifth and Brannan streets that It was
impossible to save the costly stock of
hardwood and the mills which occupied
the property. After a fight of four
hours, the flames wera checked and
firevented from spradlnir through the
umber and planing mill district.
