With only one more score before the
final one the excitement of all the stu
dents will be at its height The next
score, which will appear 8aturday, will
show each student where he or she
stands, snd all will know that they
have only one more effort to win a-
fournal scholarship. Between now and
0 o'clock next Saturday will be the
only time contestants will hsve to re
trieve themselves, and not a single min
ute should be lost In making a thorough
canvass of ths field.
It is expected that some skyrocket
work will be done, end that some of the
scores will go op like balloons. There
Is no telling yet, however, whether the
winning Dauoon win nover over Port
land, Dallas, Monmouth, Grants Pass or
Baker -- City. Straws generally ahow
which way the wind blows, but the
shifting winds may yet pick up some
of tho doubtfall straws and carry them
to the winning points. Perhaps some
. Students who expect to get their choice
of all the scholarshlpa may hava to be
contented with what Is left after sev
eral other clever students get their
choice.

Victoria board of trade today to ascer
tain the views of the board regarding a
government appropriation for the Als-
ka-Yukon-Pacfna. exposition at Seattle.
The members were strongly In favor ofl

with those of the board. He felt strong
