Any assertion that either herself or Sis

ding to guarantee his appearance when
wanted Is now threatened. A local at

Clerk Fields, who has the ' money In
charge, not to pa'y out the money on Jhe
order of Attorney Seneca Touts, who de
posited It, because it belongs to W. R.
McQarry, who appeared as attorney' for
Radding.
On the other hand, Mr. Fouts declares
that he personally raised the money de
posited as ball for both Radding and for
Mrs. Belle .Way ml re, who were Jointly
convicted of conspiring to defHme Mayor
Lane, i,70u in all, and that ne secured
It from zi or 30 difterent persons. Mr.
McOarry, he says; did not contribute one
cent and has no claim' whatever on the
money. -'
"1 raised that' money myself," said
Mr. Fouts. "It came from 25 or 80
different people, who were friends of
Radding and Mrs. Waymlre, I went
around quietly and got the mOnoy. That
was the way it was rained.
"When the appeal was taken to tha
supreme court I needed money to prose
cute the appeal and so I negotiated with
George Armstrong, who Is a friend of
Radding, and hypothecated the fund to
him to raise the necessary money. I
gave Radding an order on the county
clerk and Radding assigned it to Arm
strong. Armstrong Is the only man
that has any claim on that money now.
McGarry had nothing to do with It and
took no part in the appeal. He received
tl&0 for his services in defending Rad
ding, and that was all the interest he

not believed that she will return to
Portland to serve her four months' time.

Councilmen Baker, Kellaher and Ben
nett met at the city hall yesterday nhrt
talked over the new hawkers', ordinance
which will be Introduced at the next
meeting of the city council and de
cided that an ordinance prescribing a
high license in the down-town district
would mitigate the nuisance to which
the business 'men object. The three
councllmen beliave tlAt.such a scheme
will meet with the approval of the
rest of the councllmen.
An ordinance forbidding hawkers ?o
operate In Portland was introduced
some time ago by Councilman Kellaher
but fell by tne wayside and since that
tine notning nas neen done in regard
to expelling the members of the craft
that operates upon the streets. The
new ordinance will be a sort of a com
promise measure for the one which
waa k tiled.

WOMAN IX AUTO RUNS '
DOW BICYCLE RIDER
H. 8. Wildes, an employe of the Amer
ican Hospital association was struck at
:30 this morning by an automobile
driven by Mrs. E. D. Conrtell while he
was riding a bicycle near the corner'of
Seventh and Washington streets. The
young man was hurled to the pavement
but was not seriously hurt. Mrs. Con
nel picked him up and carried him to
the office of Dr. Strowbridge. where
he was found to be uninjured except for
a few slight bruises on the head and
hands.
