the case and took to an entirely new
track, that of a wealthy Baltimore so-..

tery may lead to a relative of Mrs. W.

('liarles O. Roberts when he was shot

Wednesday night, the police absolutely
decline to affirm.
The latest turn of affairs came after
a statement to detectives this afternoon
bv W. S. O. Williams. In this statement
Williams declared that he was not away
! from his country homo at Long Green,

day until Fridav morning'.
The shooting of Hoberts took place on
the hoard walk at Atlantic City after 9
o'clock Wednesday evening. Williams
was corroborated In his story by Vlrgfil
Mitchell, bis butler, and other servants
of Long (Jreen. All told straightforward
stories and removed the last vestige of
doubt as to Williams' whereabouts on
the night of the tragedy.

he mailed to his wife at Atlantic City.
Wednesday. Williams declined to talk,
declaring that it was purely a prlvata
