stock breeders will be rounding their
respective circuits which, this year of
fers greater inducements for top notch
speed contests and classy stock exhib
its than any previous year. Portlandeis
will be represented at the initial race
meets to he held at Sacramento and
Bellliyfham and also at Marshfield. The
result at Sacramento will be watched
with greatest interest because a major
ity of the speeders that are to contend
for stakes at the California State Fair,

At Belllngham. the first annual North.
Pacific Fair circuit as reorganized nd
enlarged will open Tuesday with about
40 Oregon trotters and pacers In the

One of the most important announce
ments made In connection with the live
stock industry of the northwest in a
loiif time is the news received here,
only a day or so ago of the eonsumma
llon of the long-sought for Western
Pacific Fair circuit. W. E. Skinner,
founder of the Chicago International
Livestock show has Just notified M. D.
Wisdom, with whom he has been en
CHReil in working out this comprehen
sive project thut the necessary prelim
inaries have been arranged, that the
circuit will be an actuality next year,
and that with perhaps a couple of mod
ifications the dates for the various ex
positions are settled urion.
This circuit will mean the sure draw
ing of eastern livestock interests into
the northwest, a desire which the men
behind the prnjei t have had in view
for a long time The chain of fairs will
extend from Minnesota out to the Pa
cific co.fnt taking In the leading cities
along the northern boundary and then
swinging down to Include Portland,
Salem and hack to Salt Lake and Den

The result of the four games with
Oakland this week has not been satis
factory to the local fans. That Port
land has been able to but break even
has excited some criticism. Every other
team but the Beavers has made mon
keys of the tall enders. There are still
three more games to be played before
the team returns home. To make a de
cent showing the Portland team will
have, to take all lliree of them.
But It will not be done with the same
article of baseball put up yesterday.

From what O'Connor said before ho
left today, it aeems likely that all
chances of the match being declared off
has departed. O'Connor said that if
Papke insisted on 156 pounds he would
meet these condMlons, as he Is sure
that Ketchel can win the fight.
In a statement made last night O'Con
nor stated that Papke must make 158
pounds, or the fight would be declared
off.
While he Is In Los Angeles O'Connor
will visit Billy Neall, Burns' manager,
at Monrovia, to trv to make arrange
ments for a fight with the heavyweight
champion. O'Connor took $2,500 with
him today to post as a forfeit if there
is any chance of getting the match. If
arangements are made, it is likelv that
Coffroth will pull off the match in San
