a settlement of the claim cf the estnto
of Henrietta Edith Lleto against the
I'nlted Artisans, n fraternal Insurance
organization, for $150. Mrs. Llebe wna

Among their papers was found an In
surance policy In the I'nlted. Artisans
for J2.000, hut the policy provided that
In case of death by suicide only such

arrangements for the placing of the
$65,(100 dock bund Issue, and as soon
as the final transfeia are made active
work on the building of the dock, will
begin.
The wet forces are massing for the
fray again next year. They say there
have been more arrests for drunkenness
since the local Option law went Into ef
fect than ever before in 81. Johns.

Stevenson was going out to Fast
Twentieth and Morrison streets witn
extras for another automobile of the
firm when he, met with some obstruc
tions in Morrison street where the road
way is being torn up preparatory to
paving. He turned aside Into Taylor
street and continued on his way. Not
knowln- the street he did not stop

on the machine were on and these did
not furnish enough light to Illumine the
path.

being no fill at this point. The auto
mobile was pulled out of the mud this
morning with the aid of a block and
tackle. It was not badly damaged.

Fire soon after 6 o'clock lest evening
damaged tho frame buildings at the
northeast corner of Twtlfth and Wash
ington streets to the extent of over
J7.0U0. An open 'can of gasoline had
been placed too near a gas Jet In the
tailor shop of A. Zldell. 433 Washing
ton streets.
This building was practically de
stroyed, while, a cleaning shop and cof
fee house at 4.11 Washington were se
riously damaged. At the next number.
42H. were the shopu of Freeborn & Co..
wall paper and paints, and J. K. Stern,
tailor. ICach place was damaged about
JuO, mostly from water.
At 436 Washington was the Donaca
Crane grocerv nd tills was a-lso heavily
damaged. The buildings around the
corner on Twelfth street were but
slightly damaged.
At 3:30 this morning smoldering em
bers started a second fire, but the fire
men lost little time in extinguishing it.

Officer Meets His Waterloo
in Taking Drunken Wom

Ida Williams, nut of Jail only a few
days, strayed Into a new district yes
terday afternoon. Patrolman Small
found her at Elevunth and Hoyt streets
abusing every one) who passed. Small
was not acquainted with Ida. Had he
known her there would have been no
attempt to spare her feelings by bring
ing her down town on a street car. Usu
ally Ida has to be strapped to a post
while the patrol wagon is peing cnnro.
All went well until Ida was seated
in tho mr Then the circus began, and
in a moment Small found that the
horrified passengers were giving him
tho w hole side of the car to himself and
the lady with the Jug She fought, bit,
swore, threw her (trees up over nci
head nnd raised Cain generally.
Three policemen were needed to carry
her from Third street to the station.
One held her ragged skirts together
and supported her feet, another held
her around the wnlst, while the third
carried her wagging head to keep her
from shouting profanity. Today she
was given a sentence that will keep her
off the streets for a time. The next
time Small finds Ida he will not ven
ture on a street car with her.
