William Mead, supreme treasurer of
the Fraternal Brotherhood, of Los An
geles, will he In Portland on Thursday
night of this week as the guest of Mult
nomah lode No. 367 of the order. The
six different lodges of the city, as well
as Oregon City lodge, and Bt. Johns
ledges, have also been Invited to be
S resent on this occasion to receive the
1st lngiilshed guest. A class of 35 can
didates will be initiated upon this occa
sion, the Initiatory work to be conducted
by the state manager, F. K. Taylor. Af
ter the Initiation of candidates a ban
quet will be served, to be followed by
dancing and a general good time for all
who wish to remain. Six escorts will
also be In attendance upon this occasion
to see that the large class of candidates
Is properly Introduced Into the mys
teries of the order.
A large number of relatives and
friends gathered at tha Portland hotel
last night to greet Mr. and Mr. H.
Llpman and to wish them many happy
returns on tha golden anniversary of
their wedding. Telegrams and cable
grama were received from all over the
world and were read at dinner.
Karly In the evening a large dinner
waa given at the hotel to members of
the family. One of the parlors was
transformed Into a dining room with
quantities of yellow rosea and coreopsis
to accentuate the thought of the dav.
Palma. ferns and vine maple slightly
topched with the autumn tints gave a
rluh bower-like appearance. An inter
esting bit of table decoration waa a
golden ship used at the golden wedding
of Mrs. Llpman's parents. Telegrams
of congratulation were read from two
of the bridesmaids who assisted at
Mrs. Llpman's wedding.
After dinner an Informal reception
waa held in the adjoining reception
rooms where the decorations warn
equally elaborate. Many of their
friends called. The guests at dinner

an injunction against P. J. McGowan
