The overdue vessel brings a cargo
of 20,000 barrels of cement, consigned

The Norwegian steamer Tabor, which

out from the Atlantic coaat with

Ktralts of Magellan that the officers
say was the worst they had ever ex
perienced. They said at the time that
it must have proved disastrous to ship
ping and that they would not be sur
prised to find one or more windjam
mers fall ne to show im.
The British steanieV Braemount, which
is now In this harbor foadlng wheat
. for Italy, also encountered terrible
weather in doubling the horn during
the latter nart of June. Waves that
for sire compared with veritable tidal
waves rolled over the steamer and
wrought havoc until It was feared the
steamer would never ride out the storm
The rudder was disabled and heavy
stanchions were bent and broken.
Another vessel for which hope has
practically been abandoned is the
British bark Carnedd Llewellyn, 178
days out from Caleta Colosa for Fal
mouth. Reinsurance on her has ad
vanced to 90 per cent.

The Harrlman liner State of Califor
nia, Captain Nopander. will be at Alns
worth wharf late this evening. She
reached Astoria this -morning several
hours ahead of her schedule, this being
due to fine weather along the coast..
The steamer Eureka, Captain Black,
from Eureka via Coos Bay, will be at
Martin's dock late tonight, she having
also reached Astoria this morning.
Last night the Coos Bay liner Break
water, Captain Macgenn, arrived at Oak,
street dock, bringing 75 passengers and
a goodly quantity of freight, Including
150 tons or coal.
Loral agent W. H. Baker says that
the company will bring In considerable
coal this winter, In anticipation of a
good market here. It Is reported that
consumers are taking more and more to
domestic coals each year, the quality
being good and the urlce considerably
cheaper than for the Imported article.
The gasoline sloop' Condor, Captain
J yier. arrivea at couch street flock las
night from Newport, bringing a smal
quantity or general cargo. She ran
into a strong blow, but weathered
without sustaining any damage. Cap
tain l yier says a win do ready to star
on the return" trip tomorrow noon.

Alesla Joins Arabia In Harbor,
Bringing Light Cargo.
The oriental liner Alesla Is today dis
charging 3ft0 tons of gunnies and gen
eral cargo at Alaska dork. Tomorrow
she will begin loading for Hongkong
and way ports. The liner Arabia, which
arrived last week, will be ready to sail
tomorrow morning, after a brief stay
In the harbor. She will go out full, al-
tnougn sne arrivea practically light.
Since routed by way of Honolulu and
San Francisco, the Portland & Asiatic
Steamship company's liners have-
brought very small cargoes from the
orient to this port, the overland freight
having been discharged at San Francisco.

Catches Fire WhiltT Moored at Lake

Seattle, Wash., Aug. 17. The passen
ger steamer Acme was destroyed by
fire and mink while a mile off Leschl
Park In Lake Washington at 4 o'clock
yesterday morning.
The craft caught fire while moored
to a scow at the La Point Boat Build
ing company's docks and to save the
waterfront property she was cut adrift
and pushed out into the lake. The Acme
was owned by Captain Frederick H.
Moon and was valued at $3,000.

paper pictures of a crap game raid was

ing merrily, while In a third blackjack
was being playea.
