of bees were In the Immense tamarack
tree and eight gallons of fine honey was
extracted. (
The bees had entered the hollow tree
through a hole 20 feet above the ground
and the entire inside of the tree, which
was hollow, was filled with the clear,
rich wild honey, the first ever found In
this section. Tho tree was located by
an old woodsman engaged In cutting
cordwood on the Parkes place who
watched the swarms come, to water at a
mountain spring near his cabin.

Chlco, Ca., Aug. 12. James MulliiV
and Alton Downey, two 14-yoar-old
boys, are under arrest hero today
charged with robbing the postofflce at
Red Bluff Sunday and taking 11,700 In
checks. One of the checks was sent
back to Red Bluff from here with a
request that It be cashed In $5 gold
pieces. It whs for $268. The bank
turned It over to Sheriff Boyd of Te
hama county, who sent a package of
Iron washers to the Chlco address ua a
decoy.
The. boys were arrested here on the
charge of robbing a moving pleturn
show and the officers found a wallet
containing $1,500 in checks outside the
Jail under the window of their celf.
Sheriff Boyd today identified the
checks and the officers say the bovs
confessed robbing the postofflce,

the T. M. C. A., was dressing this af
ternoon after taking a plunge In the
tank there, a aneak thief entered the
locker room, stole Johnson's trousers
and necktie, and mails his escape with
out so much as being seen. Johnson
left his lofker open while he walked to
the othor end of the room and while
he was gone the robbery took place.
The thief, after making his escape
from the looker "room, went Into the
lavatories on the uuper floor and after
emptying the pockets of the trousers
and taking a scarf pin from the necktie,
left them lying on the floor.

bery had been committed bdt thought

ent had played a joke on him. As time
passed and the garments snd jokers
failed to be foand he realized that he
had been robbed. The thief, however,
had been gone fully 16 minutes.
The scarf pin was of very little value
while In the trouser's was a purse con
taining about $6. The thief left no
clue.

about 10 o'clock at the Case logging
camp. Several men were pulling a log
up a stump when one end went down.

first, his neck being broken. Lie was
a single man and had lived !n Rainier
for two years. He had worked at the
camp for six months. His home was

has sent to Jullaetta, Idaho, for a bushel
of the famous Alaskan wheat for which
the sum of $20 was paid and the sample
