Artie O'Pea's Rrandon team Is In the

Worcester and Lawrence are having
it nip and tuck for first place In tho
New Kngland league.
The Vlokshurg team la making a
game fight for the Cotton State league
pennant, but It begins to looli as
though Jackson had It on them.
Here is the prize golf story. A scrag-
gly yellow cur, no Intelligent, wife
Scotch collie, recently won a golf match
for Mrs. Jarkson B. Kemper and her
partner, L. P. N'ieimin, in a mixed tour
some at the Milwaukie Country club.
The dog was determined to take the
art of a gallery In the event, and fol-
owed tho players to tho third hole.
The bunker midway to the green on tills
hole Is a beastly thing, and the yellow
cur realized that fact. So when the
"guttv" went plunk Into tho sand at
tho foot of the bunker, the cur calmly
surveyed the proposition before the
players.
lb fore the regular caddies could In

the bunker, dropped the pellet 20 yards
from the pulling green and stood off
to one Sid- to watch the finish of the
hole.
Niomnn insisted the ball should be
placed from where the players found
it, that the assistance of the pup was a
rub of the green. Ills opponents averred
to the contrary.
Two iialls Mere played to decide the
conundrum, one from the bunk.-r where
the canine c.iddv found It, the other
from where tl.-- doir pb-ked It up.
After Ihe match the question of
which hall should score was left to the
club professional, who ruled that the
doc was a rub of the green, saving the
pair five strokes over the score of the
play from the bunker and giving the
players a score of 43, one under the
next best pair.
