Suits were filed yesterday by repre
sentatives of the government against
three corporations charging them with
maintaining; fences illegally on govern
ment land. The William Hunley com
pany of which Harry L. Corbett Is sec-retary-Ireusurer,
Is the principal of
fender against which suit was filed.
It Is clulmed that this concern has
82,000 acres of land Illegally fenced and
that the fences have been maintained
for years. The I'aclflo Livestock com
pany is charged with having nearly
lb 000 acres Illegally fenced. Thousands
of acres of school lands are also en
closed by the same corporation.
Hugh Watthrew. first cook on the
O. R. & N. steamer Potter, was ar
rested Friday night charged with steal
ing provisions from the Potter pantry.
When arrested he carried a largo sui'.
case filled with a choice assortment of
provisions Including a ham, several
teaks, a number of rolls of butter and
a five-pound can of baking powder.
