GEARHART PARK
Gearhart Park, Or., July 24. The-e
has been a steady Influx of people at
this resort all week and most of th"
cottages are now open. 1 he merchants
here report a growing summer trauc
and Kruse's Beach hotel haB a good
reputation. Everything in the park is
up and on the move. All day long
there are peoplo oing and coming i n
the walk. Tie front porches of the
cottages are always occupied and from
the midst of hammocks and Chinese
lanterns there comes the music from
the phonograph. Children play on the
beach in the long stretch of sand
while their elders drive, ride horseback.
bowl or follow the golf ball over the
Gearhart course. When tho trains come
in they find a crowd at the little depot
t
: r
J'O:,
and on Saturdays and Sundays hun
dreds throng the walk between the
station and the cottages.
At night the long"road up to the
hotel is illuminated' by electric lights
and things have the llfo of a stre-Jt
carnival. In the near future the' road
from the station to the beach Is to be
macadamized. During the spring a num
ber of new cottages have been built.
Jacob Krimbcll of Portland has just
completed a handsome home and L. H.
Pfunder of Portland has purchased a
block where he will build a summer
residence. Jerry Bronaugh and Dan
Marks, both of Portland, have also pur
chased lots and are preparing to build.
William Brness reports that during tho
last two years over 400 lots have been
sold in the park. The new hotel which
Kruse 1r building; on the beach front
Is a sightly structure. When completed
It will have over 200 rooms and will
represent an outlay of over J75.000
The great feature of the new hotel i3
the covered porch which extends around
the entire building. From it's eleva
tion on the beach front the big building
commands a magnificent view. The
water supply for the hotel will be
brought from Thompson falls, five
miles back lit the hills. The quality
of tho water Is said to be fully os
good as Bull Run.
