The troops were breaking camp, pre
paratory to leaving this morning, when
the storm occurred. The camp was
crowded with visitors. Governor Stuart
wfln entertaining a number of friends
In his tent. Without warning; the storm,
accompanied bv a terrific wind and rain,
broke. The governor's tent wan whipped
from us mooroiK-i mm
found themselves entangled In a mass
of tenting and cordage. Hundreds of
civilians and soldiers sought shelter In
the big Y. M, C. A. tent. This canvas
was handled roughly, but, as with the
governor's tent, none of the occupants
were seriously injured. Today the camp
s all under water.

Tallejo, Cal., July 24. Joseph Wil
son, since 1852 one of the most promi
nent and one of the wealthiest men in
this section, died late last night after
an Illness of five daysv He took a
Iiromlnpnt part In the history of Val
cjn during the early squatter days and
contributed money to the fund raised t,j
send General Frlsbie to Washington to
perfect the deeds to Valle.io lands un
der the Spanish grants. He was identi
fied with the building of the Vallejo
water system and contributed the first
money toward the purchase of lands for
that purpose. He retired from active
business 15 years ago and is survived
by three sons arid two daughters.

Buckles, from Oregon recently, sus
tained a fractured skull and other in
juries last night at the Market street
crossing of the Northern Pacific rail
road, by being run over with an auto
mobile driven by John W Reynolds, a
Well known banker ot Chelialis. Buckles
was riding a bicycle when the collision
occurred. He was still alive this morn
ing, but there Is little hope for re
covery. New Yorkers Entertained.

Sunday in Portland and were enter
tained by the Commercial club, the Now
1 ork State society and the First Con
gregational church. A number accepted
