"Oregon Is not excelled by any other
state In the Union In the quality of her
dairy products and In the fine dairy cat
tle. It Is doubtful If any other state
Is our equal In this respect. I regard
dairying as the backbone of the state
Industries.
"I have Just returned from a trip up
tha Willamette valley and I am firmly
convinced that It Is the groatest dairy
section In the world. There Is no talk
of hard times up that way. The farm
ers are raising a bumper hay crop this
year, one that far exceeds the average
yield, arid thev are sending this hay to
market In their milk cans. They realize
that at the present high prices for but
ter, milk and cheese that they can make
much more by feeding their blooded
stock than by hauling to the local mar
kets or shipping to Portland.
"I believe that Oregon Is destined to
be the premier dairy ' the coun
try within a very few yeara. We al
ready have some of the choloest dairy
cattle In the world on our breeding
farms and the fannera are building up
their, herds every year. The quality of
the butter fat produced by cowa of the
Heaver state la far abova tha average
for the United States.
"Holstelna, e4yrshlren. Jerseys and

dairy cattle, ar the only kinds consid
ered by the dairyman of this state, who
pays fancy prices for hla dairy herd,
but gets back his money with Interest

"We now have half a doien cow

organised one on thle trip at Dayton.
Or. I have a man continuously engaged
In this work throughout the state.
Milking machines are oomlng Into more
general use each year. They are con

A New Departure
The cost of Interments has been
greatly reduced by tha Hoiman Under
taking company.
Heretofore It has been the custom of
funeral directors to make charges for
all Incidentals connected with a fu
neral. The Edward Hoiman Undertak
ing company, the leading funeral di
rectors of Portland, have departed from
that custom. When casket Is furnished
by us we make no extra charges for
embalming, hearse to cemetery, outside
box or any aervleea that may be re
quired of us. except clothing, cemetery
and carriages, thus effecting a aaving
of $ZB to 175 on each funeral.
