CHEESE MARKET
TONES UP A BIT
More Dealers Are Asking
111 -2c for Flats, Trip
lets and Daisies.
Wholesale market features:
Cbeose In advancing.
Kkkh Hhow h scarcity.
Chicken market In fine.
Another rise In whrat.
Flour market Is firm.
Two earn of cantaloupes arrive.
Car Walla Walla onions In.
Heavy supplies of peaches.
JioM meats are In demand.
Complaint ruKitrritiiK new hay.
Tomato supplies plentiful.
Cheese Market X Advancing'
Willie wholesale grocers generally
advanced tlielr imotutlons In tho cheese
market to 14 Ho for flats, triplets and
daisies the latter part of Just week
Front street handlers did not move up
their quotations and values ruled rather
mixed. Today some of the Krpnt street
hou.'-es tuit tin their Quotations to HUc
for anything except In rare lots and tho
market Is firm ut that figure. For
large lots they have udvaiioed their
quotations from 13'4Sil3o to 14c
pound: showing practically the same
rise ns for small lots. Reports from
the Tillamook makers tell the same
story of heavy purchases whenever sup
plies are offered.
Tgg Market Holding1 Well.
Whllo some receivers are rcportlnij
large supplier of egss, the trade in
feneral Is short and for that reason
hero Is a slight bulge In quotations
with today's Values ruling between 24 it
25c a dozen. However, a large per cent
of the nales continue to be reported at
24c. Quality Is much the same as last
week and Is lust about like former
years for this season.
Qreamery Butter Weaker.
A constant grind Is shown In cream
fry butter sales and makers report fx
perlenolng much difficulty In moving
all supplies. On this account they an
forced to put away large surplus stocks
In the storage house. There Is no
outsldo market for butter at this time;
till attempts to force goods on the
trade only resulting In a lower rango
of price offerings.
Chicken Market Is Firm.
While the receipts of poultry during
the pint 24 hours were quite heavy the
market remains In a very fjrm posi
tion with the trado taking all that
mines nt prices quoted by Tho Journal.
As long as receivers keep values with
in bounds there Is not likely to be
much of a concession In values; unless
.Jtiere la a radical increase In arrivals
or a Klmllnr decrease In consumption.
Heavy Supplies of Peaches.
Very heavy supplies of local peaches
are shown in the Front strcft markets.
JIoNt of the mocks are coming from
The Dalles and other Columbia river
points. Some of the very small fruit
anld as low as 60c a box during the
dav's trading but the better sizes an I
quality brought yeeterday'a quotations
Tw'o cars of cantaloupes came In this
morning from California in good con
dition. Market firm at $2.50 for regu
lar crates.
A car of Walla Wall.T red onlona was
among tho morning's rail arrivals.
Brief Notes of the TTaUe.
Best quality of dressed veal Is still
In good demand tilling the street but
poor meits of nil kinds are not wanted.
Supplies of local and California to
matoes are heavily Increased. A feature
of the present tomato movement Is the
.'really Increased supplies being offered
Ly nearby sections. This Is expected
to Interfere somewhat with the sales
of sin ii large lots of eastern Oregon
stuff.
New potatoes arc down another notch
with somewhat larger supplies from
local points.
Watermelon trade Is good nt the de
cllne in price values yesterday.
Hop dealers report an absence of bus
iness of any kind, either spot or con
trail, at the moment.
While th.-re Is a firmer tone In hides
and wool no change is today shown In
l.wil values.
Siring bo ins are rather scarce along
t ., -Meet and the market Is firmer.

TEAK DOWN BUILDINGS
AT FIFTH AND STARK
Wreckers were put to work this morn
ing destroying the old frame building 1
on the Brady quarter block at the
coiner of Fifth and Stark streets, prop
erty which is now controlled by Gay
Lombard under a long-term lease.
There has been a permistent street
rumor for some weeks that Mr. Lombard
intended putting up a large offloij
building on this corner, hut when ap
proached on the subject ho declined ta
state what character of Improvement
he intends building there. Mr. Lombard
left for California last Saturday, and
announced before leaving that he would
probably be prepared to say what kind
of building Is to go up on the Brady
corner upon his return to Portland.
In tho general synod of the Lutheran
church 124 congregations have In
creased tho salaries of their pastors
this year.
