SPANKED BRIGHT RED
This Is a tale of three races white,
black and yellow.
The black member of the equation

difficulty this morning. Thla difficulty
resulted from nor slie and weight, for
she was of unusual proportions and
seemod almost exhausted.
She her name was not told ex
plained to Chief Probation Officer Had

mercy. Once started talking, there was
nothing to do but to- let her run down.
Sifting nut the gist of the talk, It was
learned that she wnnted to complain re
garding tho treatment of a child that Is
being cared for by the American . wife
of a Chinaman who Is seeking his for

She the woman of large proportions
nnd dark skin declares that Mrs. Ah

spanked. So 'she wants the Juvenile
court to spank tho spanker figurative
ly, of course.
Mr. Hadley promised to investigate,
nnd "she" waddled out, satisfied with
duty done.

J. W. Spencer, the Fort Worth (Texas)
Banker, Says of Portland's Future.
"I want to congratulate Portland upon having
secured the location ot Swift C& Co.'s (Union Meat
Co.) packing plant. . . . Swift C& Co. have made
Fort Worth, my home city, their packing center
for the Southwest. ... Since the location of the
packing plants Fort Worth has considerably more
than doubled in its population while its business
has increased 300 per cent"
The general prosperity of a community is re
flected in the bank accounts of the individuals.
What the great packing industry has done for
Fort Worth will be repeated and emphasized in
Portland. The Union Meat Co. is distinctly a
home industry, through which millions of eastern
capital will flow into Portland and Oregon channels.
Choicest facilities make choicest products; the
Union Meat Co., under Federal inspection, pro
vides retailers with the highest grade, finest qual
ity, most wholesome, Oregon grown, fresh meats.
Their Columbia Brand hams and bacon, U. S. In
spected, cannot be surpassed.
Loyalty to Portland's best interests, to your
own health and good taste, and to an enterprise
that means a 300 per cent (and more) increase in
Portland's business, demands that the consumer
insist on his dealer furnishing him these Govern
ment Inspected products; there's not only loyalty,
but health and safety in so doing.
