Within the next 60 days Portland will
bave through fast service between this
city and St. Paul, over the north bank
road and the Northern Paclfio railway.
The shortest time between the Pacific
coast and the twin cities will be made
by these trains, which will be new
throughout, and palatial in all their ap

now being completed In eastern car
shops and will be ready for the in

The present route from the east to
Portland via Tacoma and thfe sound will
be abandoned for through passenger
business, and the splendid new. trains
will run direct from Portland via the
Columbia river and Pasco to St, Paul
and Minneapolis. Many hours' time will
be cut out of the present through
schedule by this Innovation. It is a
tremendous advance in train facilities
for Portland, and means that the bulk
of coast travel of all the Hill lines
will be thrown to this city.
As sdon as the draw upan macninery
is placed and the approaches graded and
ironed, the north bank road's v 11

initial train service. This Is expected
to occur August is, ana an excursion is

A New Departure
The cost of interments has been
greatly reduced by the Holman Under
taking company.
Heretofore It has been the custom of
funeral directors to make charffea for
all Incidentals connected with a fu
neral. The Edward Holman Undertak
ing company, the leading funeral di
rectors of Portland, have departed from
that custom. When casket is furnished
by us we make no extra charges for
embalming, hearse to cemetery, outside
box or any services that may be re
quired of us. except clothing, cemetery
and carriages, thus effecting a saving
of $25 to S76 on each funeral.
