sweet and all of the children's own
raisin.
Today will culminate the hop of
many months of patient toll, when the
flowers, grown from, the seeds they
planted and then nourished ana tended
will be viewed and admired by thou
sands.
A few will be made happy by recetV'
ing the prizes, and- the only Inharmon'
lous note in their day of pleasgre will
be the disappointment of those who did
not receive a prize. But this, too. has
Its wholesome lesson, and the good lit
tie citizen will be the one whose dis
appointment spurs him on to greater
errort for next year.

Being school prize day a special, pro-
fram was arranged for the Forum hour,
t was In charge of Superintendent Gary

number was the singing- of "America"
by 100 teachers who sat on the plat
form. It was a beautiful and Inspiring

State Superintendent Ackerman gave a
talk on "Industrial Training- in the Pub
lic Schools," bringing: out many good
points. Ha was listened to with interest.
"Being Brothers with Earth" waa the
subject of a talk by R. F. Robinson, su
perintendent of Multnomah county.
Talks of Great Convention.
'Civil Service" was to have been the
subject of the morning hour at the
headquarters of the Oregon Federation
of Woman's clubs, where Miss Anna
Lewis Clark leads the crass rfaoh fftorn
lng, but owing to the departure of aj
numlMr of women who cannot remain
over next week, Miss Clark consented to
give an outline of the great oienmai
convention of the General Federation
of Woman's clubs, which closed In Bos
ton last week, and from which Miss
Clark came direct to Portland.

Mr. Von Jessen Is of Danish birth and
ranks among the greatest pianists ,-f

four years he was a pupil of Fnni
Liszt and a fellow student of Rosn-
hal. For 11 years he was In the Con
servatory of Music In the City of Mex-
co. which receives government patron
age. The climate compelling him 'o
leave there, he became director of the
San Carlos opera company, which has
