contested suit for absolute divorca la a
sequel which followed hard on the
sensational elopement and marriage of
Thomas K. Butler and Mabel Blanch
Cutler, daughter of Governor John C.
Cutler, immediately upon tha discovery
of the runaways and the return of his
daughter to the governor's home.

to free his daughter from what he con
s'ders a most mistaken alliance. A
summons In the suit was served upon
Thomas E. Butler. It is authoritatively I
stated by the attorneys for Mra. Butler
that the suit will be pressed to tha ut
most. Butler la confident that no legal cause
azista for a divorca, and that he still
possesses his wife's love In spite of
pressure brought to bear upon her by
her family, is prepared to defend the
suit to the biter end.
Butler aald: "Governor Cutler Is a
man that cannot be told anything.
There can be no possible grounds for a
divorce, and he will not be able to ob
tain any. He has used all his Influence
and that of all his friends to trump up
some charge against me, but he has not
been able to do so, and will not be able
to do o. I do not know yet whether
I will bring civil suit a rains t Governor
