The Journal's scholarship contest 1
Interesting students in all parts of Ore
gon. The contestants in eastern Ore
gon are going to give those west of
the Cascade range a greats battle for
leadership. Among the enthusiastic
oung men of the east Is Roy Harper,
'he Dalles. Roy is a. native of the
ftrogresslve little city celebrated for
ts beautiful Oelllo falls. He has lived
In the city of his nativity all his life,
about 19 years, and Is well and favor
ably known by practically every citi
zen. His father. James Harner. is an
active lodge man, belonging to the Ma

Harper will get potential support. Like
many other contestants he will put his

glorious Fourth. With this year's na
tional day over Roy Intends to get
down to business in real earnest and
will pile up votes to his credit at a
rate that will surprise the workers west
of the mountains. -He graduated from
The Dalles High school In June and
was an active worker In all school af
fairs, being prominent in athletic events
and an enthusiastic member of the
debating team. He 1 just now debat

will beat his nearest competitor out

Oregon Journal is offering to clever i
students. It la up to the boys and girls
of western Oregon to decide whether i
an eastern lad has the energy and In

Workers Will Win.
