of plans to expend immense sums of
money In the campaign this year crop

note that method is being employed and
that members of the congress who have
been active, as well as effective, in
bringing trust aouses to li?ht are
singled out for especially hard strug
gles, ana tnat opponents or such t runt
enemy candidates are financing their
campaigns with ease.

Develops Sensation.
Mr. Ralney went into the matter with
care and industry, and developed start
ling facts that the watch trust had so
manipulated prices under the high tariff
that they sold here so much higher
than they did abroad that dealers here
could "afford to go abroad, buy the
watches and send them back and then
sell at prices from 20 . to 80 "per cent
lower i than was asked, for watches
bought direct here.
Mr. Ralney collected a mass nf evi
dence showing the existence of a watch
trust, and damaging to the high tariff
as applied to watches. He supplied the
government with the facts, and time
and time again urged proceedings. The
proceedings never haVe been begun.
His speech on this subject stirred the
country as have few addresses delivered
in recent years; and, If already his repu
tation for force and fearlessness has
not been made, -it alone would have es
tablished him as one of the mn of the
hour, vigilant to guard the public weal
and brave enough to antagonise the
owerful elements which compose the
ndustrial aggregations of tho country.

the forthcoming encampment of regu
lars and guardsmen, and was shown the
camp sites or tne Third and Fourth
regiments or tne uregon Rational
Guard. The two regiments and the Sec
ond Washington regiment will be en
camped close together Just east of the
Northern Pacific railroad track at Mur
ray station, about 17 miles from Ta
coma.
