ton regatta July 2 and 4, If in splendid
trim and could antef a shell today for
the race, - probably no other senior craw
has ever been so fast as the one at pres
ent, regardless of the recant illness of

There is one regret, among t ha local
oarsmen and that is the amallness of
the field In the classlo event of the
day, the senior four-oared race over
mile and a half course. Last season
Portland triumphed over four other
crews, while this regatta has been scaled
aown to uiree entries in tne Dig event,
Seattle and Nelson having no senior
entries.- '
The Portland crews leave Tuesday for
Seattle, where they will spend two days
in practice over the course. ' It was
originally intended to spend five or six
days getting acclimated and accustomed
to the waters of the lake, but after
serious consideration Coach MurDhv and
Captain Craig McMlcken are of the be
lief that better results can be had here
