asked the police' to protect his home,
the rectory at East Twelfth and East

ple are swarming; to the beach, filling
the cottages and resorts, the little ham-'
lets on the north and south shores one
bustling with activity and the season
la on in full blast. - Tourists who.snend
one summer at the seashore return year
after year and each time bring with
them new recruits to enjoy an uneeaa-
lng round of pleasure fromt the'openinx
until -the close of the season. These,
words of an old fisherman best describe
life at the resorts: "Thar ain't . no .

the . pleasure of surf bathing,. , tennis
playing, dancing and other various en
tertainments' that are to be had at the
coast, are the innumerable and ideal. In

scenic are the paths that' lead to a
chain of fresh water lakes that extend

The transportation , facilities to tha
coast were never before ao luxurious
and adequate. . The Astoria A Columbia
River railroad runs trains dally, leav
ing -Portland at 6:30 p. nw through to
Seaside, and returning leave Seaside at
4:50 p. m., arriving at Portland at 10
p. m. These evening trains . both carry
a dining car and the cuisine Is up to the
highest standard or elegance. They also
run morninir trains and a sneclal Satur
day train, leaving Portland at 2:20 p. m.,
arriving at Seaside at 6:55 p. m. -Tha
popular excursion steamer T. J. Potter,
of the O. R. A N. - company, beginning
this morning, runs dally on regular
schedule regnrdlfss of tides, making a
msgniflcent daylight trip down the Columbia,-connecting-
at Mejcler-with the
11 waco railroad, thence to the North
Ucach resorts, which are scattered - the
entire length of the beach, where rates
can ha had to suit the visitor.
The capacity-of the hotels at both
Seaside and North Beach the past sea
son were taxes to the uttermost and in'

is barely possible . that accommodations
will bo ample for the immense number
of people that will leave the city dur
ing the swelterlns days of July and
August to enjoy the cool ocean breezes
and the delightfully refreshing ' surf

sorts during their -vacation should make
reservations at an early date. At Sea
