by tha customhouse officials several
months ago for smuggling opium In, has
smuggled hlmeelf out. It seems. .
Walter H. Evans, assistant United
States district attorney, appeared In
tha federal court this morning and re
quested Judge Wolvarton to sign the
papers which would declare the bond
of Willlamo forfeited to tha govern
ment. The raquest was granted.
Williams that Isn't his resi name j
apparently was a Canadian. He had
about 1600 worth of opium in bis pos
session when arrested here by the cus
tom inspectors and on which the duty
required bv Uncle Bam had not been
paid. Williams, It is said, has been op
erating along the Paclflo .coast, tha
sound and British Columbia, for yesr.
He was released here on $1,600 bail.
Williams is a slow, easy-going Indi
