Government Sends ' 'i Agents
; to Gaviota to Await Ar-
, rival of Pinna. , ,
V v (Unite Prrti Leuod Wire.)
" Baa 1 Francisco June ,18. It was
learned aer today that agents of
i the United States government have,
been dispatched secretly to Gaviota,
a lonely landing place on the coast
near Santa Barbara, ta await the ar
rival of the British steamer Pinna,'
under charter hy the Japanese line
Toyo Risen Kalsha, from Yokohama
to. carry oil. It is understood among
revenue officers who permit them
selves to whisper" of . the, case, that
a cable from the special agent of the
government at ' " Yokohama saying
that the steamer bad ,; contraband
opium and silk and , several Japan
ese coolies aboard, la the reason for
the action ; of the , government and
that a revenue cutter will be sent to
Gaviota later to await developments.
-The' Pinna la chartered to carry
oil It was reported when she last
landed at the lonely port, that sev
eral . Japanese without papers had
been put ashore. Just - why, the
liner, should clear from Gaviota la
a "mystery and .the collector 'of the
port at Los Angeles will be asked
why permission was given the Jap
anese boat to . clear from there. ,
