NQ fact is more trenchant to the public mind than the persistent sale of
. any high grade commodity at a relatively low price. But to be convincing
it must be a fact Millions are yearlyv spent in this country setting forth
claims which are never substantiated. Consequently in drawing attention to
the price advantage of CRAWFORD SHOES, we aim always to intelli
' gently present reasons for such advantage. -Every
logical reason "exists as to why 'CRAWFORDS" should be the best
shoes in the world at reasonable orices. Decidedlv the shoe. iiKtifv tfire
reasons; they are by far the most distinguished shoe models sold at any
price, and the only really fine shoes sold at anything like their prices. They are
; comfortable, durable and unexcelled for fit
A newspaper with a circulation of a million can afford expert news-gatherers,
brilliant contributors, artistic illustrators and authoritative critics. These same
agencies are impossible to the country journal. And so with the making of shoes.
It costs as much to draft a pattern for one pair of shoes as for ten thousand pairs.
Improvements which to small producers would mean expensive innovation, to. the
largej producer is economical necessity. The factory with an immense output can
afford to pay liberally for genius to plan and skill to execute. The proportionate
cost per pair of shoes is vastly different in each case; in this difference lies the great
advantage of the colossal producer. r
The "CRAWFORD" makers have never been content with simply producing
better ahoes than competitors at certain prices; that goal was passed long before
Crawford ahoes were placed on sale in Portland. The constant detennination has
been to produce the best shoes in the world and yet keep within the boundaries of
reasonable price. Do ordinary manufacturers oroducins shoea at "CRAWFORD'.
prices attempt to present "CRAWFORD' styles? In their product you find the
emphatic answerNo! The tribute of imitation to "CRAWFORDS comes today
from the most exclusive makers of high-priced shoes. "CRAWFORD" Shoes are sold
always at
$3.50, Pi.00, $5M
You Cannot Get Better Shoes by Paying Higher Prices
We sell CRAWFORD SHOES in a manner worthy of your at
tention. Unpleasant experiences while spending your money are by
no means rare. Too many merchants allow an atmosphere of sullen
indifference to pervade their establishments and . offend their patrons.
We feel that when you enter our store our highest privilege is to
so receive you that you will never want to again enter any other shoe
6tore. The ordinary procedure of getting your money as speedily as
possible and then figuratively throwing you out is not followed at the
CRAWFORD SHOE STORE, and if by chance you return to report
gone wrong or to make a complaint tne manager oi our store win not freeze up
too busy to talk to you. No, that is not the "CRAWFORD" system. To begin with,
only competent shoemen; by which we mean an ability to properly fit shoes and
corteously show thern. We never misrepresent our snoes, use extrav
agant insinuations or make promise which will not be fulfilled. We do
