a month to maintain this mission and
the lady managers' rely almost entirely
upon the proceeds of the annual ball

June -C. Franklin Koch Of, Portland
distinguished himself in the rigorroto'
track meet held on the local field last
night by winning six first places. This
Is an annual event in Portland uni
versity, and the entries are restrloted
to the athletes who have not as yet
won their official "P" n ; the track.
The meet was held between the hours
of 10 and 11 p. m and was witnessed
by a large crowd of masculine specta
tors. The competition In each event was
keen, which makes the work of Koch
the more extraordinary from the fact
that he succeeded in taking one half
of the first places. ,t t - -'.-
Koch, though as yet a new man on
the track with undeveloped abilities,
gives promise of ultimately becoming
one of the best all round athletes In
the state. This is the first yea he
has ever trained for track work, but
considering, his Inexperience v he has
made phenomenal progress, finishing
the half and the mil raee close be
hind the veteran runner Robinson. A'r.
Koch Is also very popular with the stu
dents, belna treasurer of the Y. M. C.
A., manager of the tennis club and sec
retary of the Gamma bigma literary

charged, by a Jury in Judge Neterer's
department v The case attracted con
siderable interest among the saloonmen
of the city. The victory is a decided
encouragement for the state and shows
that he sentiment of some of the people
at leaat Is in favor of the movement
to close the saloons on Sunday,

there has been considerable talk that
the city may be asked to revoke his li
