As a precursor of the Rose Festival
the lovely home Of Mrs, J. VC Hare,
J74 Caruthera street, was thrown open
Thursday afternoon for tha first of a
series of entertainments to about 65
guests. ' Mrs. L. B. Smith, and Mrs.
Appleby, Miss Rieman, Miss Johnson,
and little Miss Gwendolyn Bosarth. The
decorations In pink and green were beau
tiful. The veranda was screened and
used with the parlors for playing five
hundred." Friday afternoon Mra Hare
and Mrs. Bmitn again emeruunea. in
dining-room ou this occasion was dark
ened and the soft glow of the pink
shaded candlea lent to the beauty of
the decorations. Here the hostesses
were assisted by Mrs. F. A. Douty and

Mrs. Francis James Bailey entertained
the members of the Multnomah chapter
of the Daughters -of the American Revo
lution. with a muaicale at the Hobart-
Curtls Wednesday afternoon, one of the
features of which was the playing of

songs by John Claire Montelth and Miss
Sara Glance... Rev, Dr. Dyott, of the

Miss Waggener has only recently re
turned from Germany, where for 10
months she has studied with Alberto
Jonas in Berlin. Miss Waggener will
move to Portland in tha near future to

a biography of Mark Twain, rightly
called "Tha Dickens of America," and
Mrs. Greene read humorous sketches

Lincoln-Garfield Women's Relief
corps No. 19 met Tuesday at the home
of Mrs, Jeaney, 185 North Sixteenth
street, to sew. A great deal was ac
complished and a good time was enjoyed
by the 16 ladles present
