counsel Interposed, went into consulta

with him to submit the case on the tes

It was JuBt after Deputy .Clerk Ed

Thaw looked cool and collected as h;

the nature of the proceedings. -
The Justice-explained that the habeas

whether he is to be freed or go back to
the asylum and that It Is for the court
to render the decision on' th strength
Of the evidence submitted.
Then the witness looked back at
"Jerome, who inquired If the former

Yes. through his son," replied Thaw.
"Would you be willing," queried
Jerome, "to submit to an examination
by Dr. Flint and others of my experts?"

"I think It a fair proposition." aald
Jerome, "and-I believe Thaw, who la In

Ths Justice suggested a conference be

RECORD
Justice Morschauser directed that
briefs be submitted to him at Whlte
Plains,, where ho will be holding court
next week. He added that he would
render v , decision by, a week from
Monday. - t
Thaw showed considerable nervous
ness while the eolloquy between his at
torney and the court was In progress.
He doesn't appear to be worried, . how
ever, and he readily consented when
a photographer requested permission to
take a flashlight picture. Thaw' laughed
heartily when the explosion occurred.
Until the justice's , decision Is ren
dered, - Thaw - will remain a prisoner
here.-- - :,-:-".. '..,;" :v;''
Thaw's three alienists; Doctors Pil
grim, Jelllffe and Evans were the
principal witnesses at the early ses
sions of court. ' !
Dr. Pilgrim,, superintendent of the
Hudson River state asylum for tNe
Insane; former president of the state
lunacy commission, told Jerome he had
received $1,000 for testifying,- but was
emphatic In his declaration that he. be
lieves Thaw sane. He saw there was
no danger of a relapse, If Thaw lived
properly, v. . .' . .
Dr. Evans compared Thaw's mind to
4 piece of linen that was dirty and has
been washed clean. Asked whether he
did not think Thaw sane when he killed
White, Evans replied: "That was two
years ago. I have discharged 600 pa
tients, cured, since then." . , v .
Dr. Jelllffe agreed with, hlff brother
alienists. Several Tombs attendants
testified that they often talked with
Thaw and saw no signs of insanity,

This badge is usually conferred in rec

under such conditions ' no one Is more
deserving than Mr. Tremaine, who, as
head of the Aeolian - company, has
brought forward the Pianola, which has
accomplished lncalcuable - things ' for
music, not alone In this country but in
foreign countries as well In every
great music center In the world' there
stands an Aeolian hall, which is the
home of everything that Is Cultured

of the powers behind the government of
What an American had accomplished. .
