He said that his Investigation revealed
the fact that the company wa furnish
ing only about two-thirds of the amount
of current stipulated In the contract.
Mhycr Lane pursued, his Investigation
to the point of subpoenaeln employe
and officials of the company before bim
to .testify as to the amount of current
furnished by the company. Unable to
fain satisfactory answers from these
officials and believing the company- was I
not living up to Its contract .with the
iiv. Mavor Lane refused to sign the.
warrant and yesterday' action by the
board is considered a great victory for
the mayor In the fight for cheaper mu
nicipal lighting. ; . : - S'v
Just what action the company will

of the absence of President Josselyn
from the city. That the lighting bill
will be the basts of a suit between the
company and the city seema to be a
foregone conclusion, and It is expected
this action will be taken upon the re
turn of Josselyn to Portland. -i
The company's contract expire with
the city at the end of the present year.
Although ' the council passed an ordi
nance authorising the executive board
to bid for a new lighting -contract for
a period of either three or five years
no action has thus far been taken by
