George W. Elder, sating that she would
not reach Astoria until t o'clock this
evening. This will bring her to . Port
land, tomorrow morning, a'day lata.
, Captain Jessen's telegram to the
Portland office came by way of North
Head, and Captain Jessen reports the
steamer's tardiness due to strong head
wind and rough aeas. Those who know
Captain Jessen understand that this
means a -pretty stiff gale and seaa that
are not to be trifled with. He has been
to - sea ao long -that- -ordinarily rough
weather looks fair to him. The mea

off Cape Blanco.- The Elder should
