The effective ingredients are barley and hops a food and a tonic. Pure beer is both good and good for you. 0 In Germany, Holland, Sweden, Denmark and Austria beer is the national, beverage. Nearly all people, of all ages, drink it. And all the world envies their sturdy strength. Every doctor knows how beer benefits. If you need more strength or vitality he will prescribe it. But be careful to choose a pure beer, else you get harm with the good. And select a beer well aged to avoid biliousness. The way to be sure is to order Schlitz. We go to extremes in cleanliness. We age it for months. We even filter the air that cools it. We sterilize every bottle. Schlitz has no after effects. The "Union Republican club held Its smoker last night and whooped It up for the straight ticket and unfajllng al leglance to; the demands of "the party, President John Qill presided at th meeting and In calling th audience to urder ouulnelte purpose of ths gath ering. Ankeny St. Portland The BeerThat Made Milwaukee Famous EXILE FROM RUSSIA IS CLOWN CIRCUS Nobleman Came to America and Became Eemarkably Fine Acrobat. When the greater Norrls & Rows circus, museum, menagerie, hippodrome and congress of nations exhibits in this city next Monday and Tuesday, a clown will be noticed with a hirsute adorn ment that rivals ths acrobatic piano virtuoso, Padeo-ewski. This clown's name Is down on ths program as Mickey Feeley a rather CelUo sound ing cognomen. His name in reality Is rince Romanoff Inwlchlwlch Perfow- ski a genuine Russian nobleman, who was accused while attending the Uni versity of St. Petersburg, of conspiring against the Interests of the "Little Father of all the Russians." Nicholas, the rear, and in order to escape with his neck he emigrated to the "land of the free and the home of the brave.1 nd is taking chances twice a dav on the neck that he fled from Russia to protect. Micaey. as ne is arreciionaieiy canea by his fellow performers, ' has a pep pery disposition, but Is a good fellow and Is well liked. His royal blood some times gets to boiling in his blue veins at some Imaginary wrongs and straight way he sends in his resignation, that he might return home and revolutionise the state of affairs In his fatherland Mr. Rowe takes him in hand on such occasions and persuades him that it Is inriniteiy Detter to turn aouDie somer saults over a herd of elephants and other hazardous feats in the circus thau to return to Russia and work in the salt mines the rest of his life, and the argument generally wins out. The prince, or Mickey, is unquestionably the greatest acrobat In the world. This fellow does the almost Incredltable feat of turning a double somersault from the bare ground, and his full double twisters and round off doubles are feats that will thrill the most blase. Norrls & Rowe have over 40. .acro bats and clowns with their new" big circus, but the prince Is ths best by long odds. During the engagement of the big circus in San Francisco the Russian consul and some of the .jnost influential Russians in the cltyjjwere at the circus dailv. No doubt theya d4d not like the Idea of one of the royal hlnnd of Russia turning somersaults and making funny faces for a living, but they had to acknowledge the prince a success. Norrls & Rowe guard Mlckev from prospective neiresses, but the prince is a revolutionist, not a man to be Durchased for' a few dollars and to sit In a hothouse like a toy formomo rich woman. The tents will be located at the corner of Twenty-sixth and Raleigh streets. F. B. JONES & CO. COAL and WOOD PER TON Jj56.00 PCGCORD LARGE COAL WASHED AND SCREENED NO SOOTNO DIRT Home B-gg .
