Tha Mount Hood road, and particular
ly that aectlon of It following tha
eouraea of tha Bandy river and tha Bull
Run river, will ba one of tha moat plo

among western rallroade. For aevoral
miles tba road passes through Bandy
river canyon, a wild gorre that to about
1,000 feel deep, and half a ralla wide.
The aldea rise precipitously, and ara
covered with oak, ash and hemlock.
The oak trees predominate and form
a remarkable spectacle by reason of tha
fact that thalr limbs ara clothed with
green moss several inches thick. Tha
railroad grade la cut Into the alda of
the canyon more than two-thirds of the
way up, and wtnda In and out of the
g-ulchea, 800 - feet above tha ahlalna
course of the tumbling stream that
roars along the bottom of tha canyon.
At a point Immediately above tn
junction of the Sandy and Bull Run
rivers the road crosses- the Bendy on
a high trestle and truss bridge, concrete
piers for which have been completed
and are awaiting tha eteel caissons
and superstructure. : - i .
