At I O'clock tomorrow morning tho
new steamer. J. N. Teal of the open
River Transportation company will
leav on bar first trip to Big Eddy. It
will mean the one n Ins of what promises
to be a busy aeasoa because the boat
bean tranafonned into OHO of the
best equipped steamboats plying out of
Portland.
Originally tha Teal was splendidly
adapted for freight and tha new upper
works have been constructed along
Unas making her unsurpassed for pas
senger accommodations. Tha cabin Is
large and handsomely furnished and the
observation deck la large and open,
giving the- traveler an unobstructed
view of the famous Columbia scenery.
The Teal will leave Oak street-dock
at B a m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays, touching at all way points
and connecting with the portage road st
Big Eddy. Returning the Teal will
leave The Dallas at 7 a. nv. and reach
her Portland dock about I p. m. Cap
tain Oeer, who superintended the re
building of the boat will be In command.

can game of poker unpopular in Port
land. Detectives Coleman, Price and
Hunter last evening raided a gam la
room IS of the Arcade house on First
Street between Alder y and Morrison
streeta The officers found five men
gathered about the ciotn-coverea iaoie.
In the oenter of which a jackpot of
goodly proportions waa atacked. Three
other men were in the room, and theae

for their delectation, .
The keeper of the game proved to
be a man known as John Anderson. He

the time of the arrival of the offloera
were Jamea Williams,' William Dement

evidence of their misdeeds, were taken
to the police station where they were

160 cash bail for himself and 120 for
each of the other men to Insure their
appearance in the police oourt tomor
