In this election Mr: Cake stands for the principles embodied in Statement No. 1. He appeals to those Republicans
who believe in parity in politics as well as purity in private life. He appeals to those who believe in the highest type
of citizenship, who demand a standard of unquestionable integrity on the part of their public officials.
Mr. Cake represents the business interests of Oregon, not the "Interests."
He has not received the indorsement of any of the old machine politicians, nor have representatives of the "Sys
tem" urged his nomination; but from every section of Oregon he has received assurances from the people of loyal and
overwhelming support. t
Mr. Cako stands for the principle that is at stake at this election. That principle is clear. It is whether or not
the people of this state are willing to yield up the rights which the machine is trying to wrest from them.
His opponents concede his nomination at the primaries tomorrow if the people vote. They boast, however, that
those who believe in Statement No. 1 nd pure politics will not be sufficiently interested to go to the polls.

One man who has had an opportunity
to study and learn James Cole, can

for district attorney, as well as to
know his . work while assistant United
States attorney, is Francis J. Heney,
who paid a high compliment to Cole
In tha course of an Interview before
hi departure for the south.
Heney was talking upon the require

importance of such an office. While
Heney was prosecuting- land frauds
Cole was filling the assistant attorney's
position, and In that way the men were
thrown much together. In sneaking of
Cole, Heney said:

quiet, determined aggressiveness about

district attorney.
"The district attorneyship carries
with it tremendous responsibilities.
The man filling tha office should be
the greatest moral factor In the com
munity and Should possess sterling
honesty and determined aggressiveness.
These qualities I know Cole to Doases.
He made a wonderful record aa assist
ant United State district attorney, and1
i uoiieve mm capaDie in every reapect
to fill the district attorneyship. All
the time Cole was a government em
ploye he gave the greatest satisfaction.
He carried out his work in a quiet
orderly manner that caused no fric
tion, and I have only the greatest
commendation for htm.
"Cole prosecuted many offenders
while In office and never wavered from
his duty In any case. And I might
say here that Cole alway knew what
his duty was. Once he made up his
mind on a rase he slmDlv went ahead
and In his own way with strict re
gard for the law and Justice to all
parties concerned he Prosecuted the
case fairly and Impartially. Those ara
the greatest attributes a public prosecu

possesses them. If he Is elected the
people can be sure that they will have
a rair, honest and Impartial inforce
ment of the laws."

Several other of the branch offices have
from two to live cartlera.
To facilitate the work of the mall
clerks, all letters or papers addressed
to persons living in the suburbs having
substations should have the name of the
branch office, in addition to the street
and number. For instance, after the
name of the individual and the street
number letters should be addressed "via

the name of the suburb Is riven It en
