Where Do the Old Pianos Go?
From the New York Sun. '
What becomes of all the old pianos?
Any piano dealer will take your old
piano when you want a new one and
will allow a substantial credit on It
even if it is of another make.: From
time to time the dealers announce sales
or used pianos. All dealers have large
stocks of them on hand constantly.
One piano firm has n exhibition an
old-fashioned square piano which was
made at least half a century ago. This
piano bears a placard to the effect that
any one who will tmv ihn nartae-a may
have It for the asking. No ono has ao-
cepted the offer. - j
suppose no one ever takes that piano
on ine nanas or the dealers wno want
to get rid of It. What, will the dealers
do with It? ObvlouBly with rents as
men as mey are it woman t pay . o
store a piano you can't give away.
So the question remains. What in
the last stage of undeslrabllity ,, be
comes of all old pianosT : '
Door, it

that characterized reports of his arrest
last December. - This took place In the
Argentine Remiblio after he had been
sought In vain by th police for many
years. Picturesque outlawry has al
ways existed more or less In Andalusia.
And of all' th outlaws in southern
Spain none was more picturesque than
n.
jus Two zrames.
The real nam of Vlvlllo Is Joaquin
Camargo. He was born near Seville 66
years ago. Although he was the off
spring of respectable parents, he began
his adventuroua career of crime while
still a youth, and soon made a name
for himself. One of his most famous
exploits had as Ita scene a much trav
eled road near Setenll, where five years
ago he held ud 25 merchants, one after
another, as they returned from a fair.
The whole 25- were later discovered
bound and gagged, lying side by side.
Vivlllo's day's work had netted him
0,000 pesetas.
Although ne perrormea some or nis
most darlns: feat single-handed, he
was captain of a famous band. Mem
bers of; the organisation spread his
name and fame . afar, performing: aood
deeds and bad for which he got the
credit - Personally he was polite, sober.
economical, and extremely fond of hi
own family. He had a wife, three
charming girls, and two boys. They
never took any part In his misdeeds,
although It la admitted that ho kept
them freely supplied with-money.
Two years sgo Vlvlllo. havlnar made a
fortune, sought to change his profes
sion. Many witticisms were passed on
the fact that hs set himself uo as
hotelkeeper. It was Intimated that he
had merely changed his methods of sep
arating travelers from their superfluous
cash. He also owned several farms,
whither he repaired In times of leisure,
devotlna- himself to the education of
his children. He then lived under an
assumed name, and his neighbors never
suspected who he was. viviuo had dis
appeared.-
Betrayed by Traitor.
In tho meantime the band, which he
had once controlled and with which ne
still - maintained relations, carried on
business much In the old way. But
Vivlllo's successor to the captaincy was
ahot one day and several of. his hench
men wounded and arrested. The Span
ish gendarmerie secured a - confession
from on of the wounded men and thus
learned of the whereabouts of the ban
dit who bad escaped them for so long.
Vlvlllo. ouletlr - sleenlnr in his farm
house one night, was awakened by a tap
on his window, a friend had com to
warn him. He got away lust in time,
for only a few minutes after his hasty
night tn piac was surrounded by a
troop of mounted rural guards. : He
managed to leave the country and sal

however; they knew Vivlllo's virtues as
well as his vices. Every member of his
familr was shadowed. One by one they

took ship on flfcy .for the South Amer
can port Spanish detectives booked on
tha same steamer. Th old time bandit
was eventually discovered conducting a
ranch on the Plata. - He was arrested,
but Spain has thus far been unable to
secure his extradition. Negotiations
have been In progress for many months,
and In th meantime popular feeling In
favor of the outlaw haa been On the in
crease ItMArgenttna as well as in Spain.
The Spanish government has been
asked to recall its order of extradition,
and to send out a pardon Instead. There
is a growing likelihood that It will
do so. - .
