Let it be distinctly understood that I
deny there has been th slightest foun
dation for the calumnies hurled against
me. I take thla action not out of fear,
but In the interests of harmony and the
welfare of inveatora
As a heavily Interested party I shall
exercise the aame watchful supervision
over the affairs of the Washington
uomt Telephone A Telegraph company,
in the interests of myself and Other In
veatora that I did before I resigned
my active connection with tha corpora
tion. Though a number of those who
plotted to ruin me financially In order, to
fill their own coffers were connected
with, the corporation, I have not allowed
that fact to militate against the com
pany aa a whole, and In taking the ac
tion that I did today, I have done well
by the company financially and other-
wise. . ,. ;v. ;.':rf;:i$$i?K':''fi?
My principal reason for severing my
active connection with the company waa
due to the numerous rumora regarding
long-distance connections for Cantralla
-and Chehalla, Washington, and th many
conflicting statements made by offloere
of the Northwestern Long Distance Tel
ephone A Telegraph company and others,
causing eonxuaion in tne punuo mind.
80 far aa the allegations mad against
me personally are concerned, they would
nave received litue attention, as mat
ters are now arranged, these things are
either definitely understood or will soon
be la a fair way or settlement along all
lines, and there will be no further
ground for personal vituperation and
. delay in proceeding with th : work
scheduled. The interests retained by me
In the Washington Home Telephone
Telegraph : company ar sufficiently
large to enable tne to make sure that
. the affairs of J the ; corporation , are
handled In a manner compatible . with
' the welfare of lnvestora and of the gen
eral public If I become convinced at
toy time that those playing aa under
anded game against me are forclna-
their policy upon the company, it will
b long before I again become an
active factor in proceedlnga I de not
believe, however, that there will be any '
further excuse or pretens for these
people making troubla
lor the good of the corporation I hope
that none of the old officers will oon
tinue their connection with the affairs
of the company, for the part played by
more than on of them has already been
euoh aa to create puailo distrust thus
handicapping them at the very start.
Shortly previous to handing in my resig

agent of the corporation I founS th
atmosphere had grown exceedingly un
pleasant for any clean business man, and
I am glad that X am freed of such con
