Work on the line, about 20 miles of
which have already been built out of
Hillsboro, was 'stopped last fall for the
winter- The line now extends to the
hills near Buxton and where much
heavy work will necessarily be done
this summer to sret the. line over the
ridge. The line Is being built from both
ends.-construction caving been started
at Hillsboro and at Tillamook.
McCabe Brothers are the contractors
having the work in hand near Buxton
and tha Portland Bridar & Building
company are doing the work out of Til
lamook. .
About 70 miles of track remain to be
laid, after the grading is done, and the
work will be pushed untU the lines are
connected.

Pendleton, Or, April 10. Forty-seven
cars of 90-pound steel rails have Just
been ' received for' distribution on the
O. R. & N. between Kamela and Huron,
the heaviest mountain grade on the en
tire system. This is new steel from the
Pittsburir mills and will take tne place
of the 85-pound rails which have been
in use, on the mountain for four years.
When the bud between Huron' and Ka
mela is replaced with 90-pound steel the
entire mountain grade will then be laid
with the heavy rails. Several . work
trains are now distributing the rails.
and a large force will be laying it next
month. The mountain grade will tnen
be ballasted with Grand Ronde river
gravel and it will be one of the finest
sections of roadbed in the northwest.
