by Prealding Klder Coffee that I waa
expelled from membership in the Free

wish to make the following atatemen
and leave it to tha public whether

charges were made against me In our
church, the discipline requires that tho
preacher shall call a society meeting

tha charges. Tha meeting waa called
to consider my case. When the meet

that I choose a man, that they choose

not accepted. I next proposed a Jury

waa refused and I then reaueated that

"The next night tho same proceedings

cers had been summoned by the prose'
cutlun. Coffee. Roper and Lewis, the
Judge, demanded that the marshal

who wera members of the class. The
marohsl refused, upon the ground of no
cause. Adjournment was taken until
10 o'clock next nay: The . prosecution
went to lawyers la the city to proceed
aaainst me but thev claim that no
counsel would act. From thia. meeting
an adjournment was taken to .Portland.
The prosecution allowed no discussion.
I went to Portland and asked delay on
account of Illness of my wife and to
procure witnesses.

went to Portland, saw Captain Sloper
before witnesses, and he stated to me
that he never waived the right of ap
peal. He atated that he was not there
only a few minutes after I had left tha
courtroom. .
After I had been home soma three
or four days, I received a letter from
Captain Sloper stating that he had

the records and that he had found that
he was mistaken that he had waived
the right of appeal. I have froauently
tried to get to eee the records of the
so-called trial but never had the chance.
The bishop's ruling is that a society
meeting should be held in ita own dis
trict: also that society meetinas need
not be held with clotted doors. I am not
lawfully expelled according to the ruling
of our bishop and of our discipline, ana
the whole thing was a malpractice of
the discipline which I will prova If
