And to get it quick and to celebrate the first glimpse of day
light we have had for five months, we will give remarkable
bargain sales each day this week. Three weeks ago we sold
to an outside dealer our entire remnant odd and end stocks of
underwear, waists, hosiery, and cleaned it out every scratch.
We now open these departments and lines again with 6rand
new, fresh; stock (guess some didn't expect this) and, to
celebrate and advertise the fact they go on genuine bargain

Taft Supporters Hare Made
Gains, But Time Is too
. Short to Expect to Get In
structed Delegations from
That Sectidn.
' " TTnlted Press leased Wirt.) ,,
Boston. Mass., April . The fight be
tween the Taft, supporters and the op
position for delegates to tbe Republican
national convention is on In earnest
throughout New England. Every inch
f ground Is being bitterly contested.
, irlnif the past few weeks tbe Taft
it, 'nacprs have undoubtedly been mak
ing gains, but the time remaining - Is
now too short for them to hope or ex
pect Taft instructions In any of the
New England states.
Tbe apportionment of delegates from
the six New England states to the Re-
Dubllcan national convention at Chi
cago Is as follows: Massachusetts, 82;
Connecticut. 14; Maine, 12: Vermont,
8: New Hampshire, 8; Rhode Island. .
Total, kj.
Republicans tof Rhode Island have al
read
decii
gation to Chicago. The Massachusetts
state convention will be held in . this
city day after tomorrow. The state
conventions in Blaine and Vermont will
meet at the end of this month, and New
Hampshire and Connecticut will hold
their conventions a week later.
- Various Estimates.
An unbiased canvass of tbe situation
leads to the conclusion that xart senti
ment in New England Is probably
strongest in Connecticut ana Maine.
Massachusetts appears to be about
evenly divided between Taft and the op-
The delegates at large from Massa
chusetts to the Chicago convention will
be Senators Lodge and crane, ex-oov-
ernor. John l. Bates ana eitner ex-wen
ator of the Navy John D. Long or Bid
ney O. Blarney of Attleboro.
In Maine the Taft sentiment has been
steadily gaining. A few weeks ago there
appeared not the slightest chance that
the state might Instruct for Taft, or
for anyone else. But since that time
the Taft boom has assumed large pro
portions. Senator Frye. who is presi
dent pro tern of the senate, and aT man
ly held , their state convention and I of consequence in New England politics,
ded to send an uninstructed dele-1 has declared his adherence to the Andl-
posltlon, presumaoiy Governor Hugnes.
Various estimates are made as to the
division In tbe state. Those friendly to
Taft say he will get 27 delegates, and
the opposition wui get me otner live.
Another estimate elves Taft 20 . and
Hughes 12. However reliable these es
timates may: be. It seems pretty certain
that the state convention here this week
will decide on an uninstructed deleaa
tion. Tne xart men unoouDteaiy win
fight for Instructions, the opposition
will oppose 'them, and -there may be a
compromise under Which Secretary Taft
will be f mentioned in a complimentary
way.

whether the state convention will sro to

Delegates Slated.
