Senator Charles W. Fulton spoke to tht
voters of Albany and Linn county at
the courthouse last evening In the in
terest of his reelection. His speech was
along the lines of his former declara-i

Special interest attached to this
meeting on account of the fact that
James F. Powell, the man on whom
Fulton depends for vindication on ac

Linn county Is decidedly In favor of

This being the center of the grange In

(Special Dispatch to Tb Journal.)
Salem, Or., April 4. The presence ct
Senator Fulton in the city was the
occasion today for an assembly of many
of the faithful party workers to greet
their chieftain. Underneath the appar
ent party harmony and enthusiasm there
lurks a deep-seated animosity among
two aisunct element mat crops out
In every little gathering. The antl
Roosevelt Republicans who condemn the
president for flirting with what they
call Bryanism, are Inclined to oppose
Fulton and Taft Then there is the
Simon wing of the party, openly pre
dicting Chamberlain's election.
This cropped out in the veiled threat
of open revolt contained In the remark
of ex-Governor Lord at the Jefferson
banquet, when he said:
"If party loyalty is a test of success,
Chamberlain will win hands down."
The real meaning of this standa forth
when it is recalled that, with every
opposition vote In Oregon, Chamberlain
would still fall 20,000 votes short of
election, Dut mat ne will get 10,000 Re
publican votes and "win hands down."
