in the apartments of Dr. Edwin L.
Rons, 388 Jefferson street, yesterday,
and the police have been asked to make
an Investigation and endeavor to re
cover th''' money and apprehend the
thief The key to the trunk had been
secreted behind a picture in the room,
but the hiding place wnn discovered by
tho thief and the key used to open the
trunk.
Dressed In his best, a suit of shoddy,
wrinkled goods, much too small for
him, and apparently without a friend
in the world. Virgil Darby, a 15-year
old farmer boy of Aumsvllle, who Is
unusually large for his age, pleaded
guilty before Judge Wolverton In the
United Statea circuit court thla morn
ing to two counts of violating the
poniaj regulations, uaroy was indicted
by the federal grand Jury.
July 10, of fast year. Darby Is al-
icgra i nTo uuien a letter addressod
to Mrs. B. M. MoCune from a rural
delivery box near Aumsvllle. Inclosed
was a cneca irom tne Haseiwood cream
ery of Portland, for 17.84, payable to
B. M. McCune. The boy Is said to
have Indorsed the check and then
caeneo. 11.
John MeCourt. United Statna Alatrlnt
attorney, stated the case to the court
and recommended that the boy be
oeaji wun leniently, as bis father,
Thomas Darby, a farmer, is perhapa
fatally 111 and the prisoner himself be
ing almost too young to realise the
seriousness of the offense.
Young Darby will be brought into
court tomorrow morning to receive
sentence. It Is probable that some of
the friends of his family will appear
and promise to look after the young
man in the future in case that he
should bs let off. Derby is now In
the Multnomah county jail.

Asked In regard to the lighting sys

the cltr used about 1.100 arc light for
a population of 110,000. He pointed
out. however, that the city le compactly
built, and that the number of lights

of 111,000 spread1 ovar a large amount

"The Squaw Man" has gained fame!

as will be seen in a month of Sundays.
With Mr. L'rquhart in the role of
CAptain Impudence and Miss Verna Fel

playing opposite to him, the leads are
very well done. Alma Vera, on short
notice, is making a success of her role,'
while Mrs. Allen, whose comedy work is

funny, is as successful as usual. For
rest Seabury Is playing the leading com- I

The play deals with the Mexican war
