Athletic Teams Will Battle
for Baseball and Basket
' ball Championships.
Th Presbyterian Boys' Brotherhood,
a federation of the boys' clubs or the
Hawthorne Park. Westminster, Pied
mont, East Twenty-eighth street, Sell
wood and Third Presbyterian churches,
all of the east aide, has been, organised.
The object of the federation la to stimu
late a friendly rivalry between the clubs
In athletic, literary and debating cou
teats, thereby promoting the objects of
brotherhood and at the same time as
sisting the boys 1n a development of all
Uieir powers.
The officers of the club are as fol
lows: President Ernest Vosper, of the
Piedmont Presbyterian church: vice
E resident, Francis venerioi; secretary,
Idward Smyth; treasurer, Vernon
Graves: manager, Stanley Graves. The
federation has already been started un
der favorable auspices and the success
of the organisation la assured.
The club of oie Third Presbyterian
church has offered two pennants, one
for the basket ball championship and the
other lor trie baseball cnampionsmp Be
tween the clubs. Not all the clubs
have suitable gymnasiums for athlvtlc
work, but all are showing Immense en
thusiasm and each expects to land at
least one of the big pennants. The bas
ketball series Is well under way. The
baseball teams are being selected for the
approaching season.

One of the peninsula districts that
will profit most during the next few
years Is that section known as Maegley
Junction, through which passes the new
North Batik road and also through which
'will pass the new Harrlman line that
proposes tunneling under the peninsula.
. Already the Portland Hallway company
is grading its new track to St. Johns
which leaves Dawson street at Hall, fol
lows Hall to a point near Maegley Junc
tion where It will cross the cut of the
North ' Bank road and follow the old
track again through East St. Johns
to Pt. Johns proper.
The members of the Maegley Junction
Commercial club, formed this wepk, are
taking steps to insure the upbuilding of
the new suburb along proper lines. The

In the southeastern part of the city is
one of the most Important street Im
provements that has been made In the
city for several years. The thorough
fare Is tractlcally the only outlet for
Woodstock. Ivanhoe.and a large part of
Kenllworth. ...

ess, and Alexander Hume Ford will
shortly collaborate. on a play which will
tell the story of Hawaii on the stage.
This much has been decided upon by
them at a conference held here i
cently. . .
Home of the broader outlines of the
plot have already been planned. The
working out of the scenario and the
writing of the play as a prose compo
sition is to be unaertaxen oy rord. Mrs
Wilcox will then put it Into poetry.
The Hawaiian characters will peak in
rhymed verse, and the white characters
in blank verse.
