has been received here of tha death of
Captain A. D. Rockafellow of Sea
side, formerly of Portland, who left
here 10 days ago to enter tha Soldiers'
home at Santa Monica, California. Ha
waa buried with military honors in tha
cemetery at Saw telle, California. The
deceased was a member of Cushlng
Post, G. A. R., of this city and waa
about 66 years old. Ha waa a veteran
of the civil war. Ha waa at one time
a purser on Columbia river steamboats.
He leaves one son, Allan Rockafellow,
a resident of Portland, and a brother,
who lives at Sawtelle, California,
and Other Notables.

Umatilla oounty is strongly organized,
through tha Furnish forces, for Senator
Fulton and against Statement No. 1. and
while C. A. Barrett is a candidate for
reelection to the legislature on a State
ment No. 1 platfarm, there is strong op
position to tha statement.
Mr. U'Ren will open tha political cam
paign in Umatilla county, his address
being tha first scheduled in this count
this spring. He will go from here to
other eastern Oregon counties to keen
