As it will now be impossible to pro

at the- coming June election It was de

In a great many ways It Is thought
a special election to put forward the
Madison bridge Issue will be desirable.
There are a number of measures that
the east aide clubs have proposed that
hould be submitted soon. Included In
tills list of measures are all those de-
clred Illegal by Judge Cleland in the
circuit-court recently. To these will
La added other, which may include an
appropriation for buying a rock crusher
and a new system of Improving streets;
a provision ror. district assessment in
lmiro vlnr streets: a new pipe line to
Hull Run river: placing parked streets
and shade trees under the supervision or
the park board; a provision for an eleo
trlo lighting plant; a measure requiring
all pipes ana wires to oe iaia oerore
a street la improved, ana pernaps
Others. . '
It is generally conceded that the
Madison street bridge should be replaced
as soon as possible and that no delay
hould be allowed other than la abso
lutely necessary. In the opinion of
W. L. Boise, president of the east side
clubs, the next question In importance
is tne construction or an auauionai
pipe line to Bull Run river. Next to
f hat la street . Improvement, which Is
a big problem ana regarding : whicn
there are no two views alike.
The Madison brlda-e has been declared
rot safe by the oountv commissioners.
In Its present condition It will have to
nerve the city for at least one- winter
more,, Whether It will be able to wlth

doubtful.. The piles placed under the

to be more dangerous than helpful be
