Pendleton, Or., March 24. That all
range horses on the Umatilla reserva
tion wHl be dipped under the direction
,of the federal inspector fdr the purpose
or curing tnem or mange nas oeen an
nounced by Dr. 8. W. McClur of th
bureau of animal Industry.
During the month of May, according
to Dr. McClure, the Indians. will be re
quired to round up all of their ponies
at som central point on the reservation
and they will then be subjected to a
bath. Dr. 11. E. Pinkerton wlll have
charge of the dipping. The expense of
the dipping will be borne by th Indian
department, though each Indian wlll b
required to round up his own horses.
The announcement that the Indian
horses are to be dipped Is being re
ceived with much Joy by stockmen liv
ing adjoining the reservation. For
years they have complained of the In
justice worked upon them through th
negligence of the government.

STEALS DIAMONDS

At 6 o'clock this morning a sneak
thief entered the room of C. C. Meyers,
proprietor of the Oak hotel, and stole

Chicago, March 24. It was a day for
corn traders tdoay. The market was
sharply advanced at the opening, but
made a rise of shout 4c within 15
minutes during the late trading. At the
close tonight May was lc higher,
while July advanced IVic over yester
day. Wheat opened '4c lower, with Liver
pool d up at the start and d under
that at the close. The market recov
ered with tho showing of strength in
coarse grain and closed about lc higher.
With a stronger and higher hog
market provisions were advanced May
