"North Head, at the mouth of the Co
lumbia, was swept by a howling gal;
this mortlng and- the sea was lashed
: Into a mass of foam, according to a
dispatch received from there by the
weather bureau. Lookout Kellther tel
egraphed from the cape that at 7 o'clock
the wind had attained a velocity of 72
miles an hour. -
At that particular time It was blow
ing from the southeast, but by 8
o'clock tha wind had; veered around to
the southwest and quieted down to a
r.r.-mii hreeze. Storm warnings were
displayed at tba cape early this morning
but . steamer. AJUanc .bound for Coos
Bay- passed out before the blow had
bad time to create much of a disturb
ance on the bar.-
The storm was felt to quite an ex
tent lrt the local harbor, but no damage
was caused. None of the irtjlps at an
hor In the stream dragged their an
chors. The weather bureau records
how that the maximum velocity of the
wind hers this morning was 28 miles.

make a cruise along the Alaskan coast
soon. The cruise will be made on the

weeks ago, the fight between Mayor
Lan and the majority party of the
council will come up tomorrow with the
ordinance recalling the subway commit
tee and rescinding the appropriation of
16.000 which was to be devoted bv the
committee to investigate the feaaiblltty
or a suDway ror city wires and conduits.
This Is assured by the action of tho
Judltlary committee yesterday when the
members voted to recommend the. ordin
ance ror passage.

of a section .providing that the company
shall furnish -telephone, and telegraph

liquor license committee of the city
council yesterday afternoon to withhold
ths transfer of th license from Hugo
Frits, th alleged owner, to Eugene
Froesner. Upon motion of Councilman
