this to the ministry. His first work
in the ministry was a yeur'n pastorate
In Madlsonvllle, Ohio, between his soph

After graduating be waa called to tha
work In Beaver Falla, Pennsylvania,
where ha held a abort pastorate, from
which ha was called to the Wrst Side
Christian church, Kansas City, Missouri.
This had been a difficult and backward
field. It waa the firat mission of the
First Christian church of that city and
had remained a mission for seven years
while several other children of tha First
church csma Into being and grew Into
self-support But by hard work the
church became self-supporting in a little
over two yeara arter na wok tne worn.
Nearly 850 were added during hla pas

West Side church, and the Christlsn
Endeavor and Sunday school were
quadrupled. M
The first six months of 1896 Rev.

In June of that year he waa called to

Hawaii, from which field he was called
to take the pastorate of the First
Christian church of Portland.
Mr. Mucklev began his work In this
city on New Year s day, 1904. During
the four years and three months ha
has worked in the city the First Chris
tian church has had a steady and sub
stsntlul growth in all departments of
the work. It gives five times as much
for missions through all of its depart
ments as formerly. Over 35,000 lias
been spplied on the church debt. The
pastor's salary has been Increased 33 l-s
tier cent by the generosity of the First
Christian church, without any request
from him. A pIds cricsn was installed
last May and the money pledged to
pay for it. In the little over four years
there have been 670 accessions to the
church, and the Bible school has more
than doubled. Marcn 10 tne scnooi nau

It had the first Sunday of 1904. The
outlook for the church. Is bright and
people are remarking that a new church
will be needed before Ions if the work
continues to prosper. This work has
been made posHible by the loyal support
and hearty cooperation of the church.
Mr. Muckley Insists that no cnurcu in
all his ministry has responded more
heartily than the First Chrlstlun church
